    Apr. 1, 1978

    In a 3-2 win against the Washington Capitals, Mike Bossy scores his 50th goal of the 1977-78 season, making him the first Islander and first rookie in NHL history to do so. Bossy’s 50th goal fulfilled a preseason promise he’d made to GM Bill Torrey.

    Feb. 19, 1979

    In an 8-3 win against the LA Kings, Mike Bossy scores his 100th career goal in only his 129th game, the fastest 100 goals scored by a player in the NHL. The win extends the Islanders’ unbeaten streak vs the Kings to eight games.

    Apr. 8, 1979

    Mike Bossy scores his 69th goal of the season, establishing a franchise record in a 5-2 win against the Rangers. At the time, it was the second highest total in NHL history and is still the most goals an Islander has scored in a single season.

    Jan. 24, 1981

    Bossy becomes the second player in NHL history to score 50 goals in 50 games when he nets two against the Quebec Nordiques at Nassau Coliseum. Bossy scores both goals with under five minutes to play in the third period.

    May 13, 1982

    In Game Three of the 1982 Stanley Cup Final at Vancouver, Bossy unleashed a back-hander in mid-air after being knocked out of the crease by a defender. The Islanders won the game 3-0, and went on to win their third-straight Stanley Cup.

    Jan. 2, 1986

    Mike Bossy scores his 500th goal in the final minute against the Boston Bruins at Nassau Coliseum. Bossy becomes the 11th NHL player to score 500 and does it in only 647 games, the fastest of any player at that time.

  • Jan. 24, 1986

    Mike Bossy scores his 1,000th point, in his 656th game, as the Islanders beat the Washington Capitals, 7-5. Bossy is the 20th player in NHL history – and second Islander after Bryan Trottier – to score 1,000 points.
