  • Clark Gillies skates against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

    May 28, 1974

    Clark Gillies is drafted fourth overall in the 1974 NHL Draft. After an exceptional junior career, Gillies steps right into the Islanders lineup, recording 47 points (25G, 22A) in 80 games, tying for second on the team in goals.

    Feb. 3, 1977

    Clark Gillies is named the second captain in Islanders history, replacing Ed Westfall. Gillies holds the captaincy for two more years before passing the role onto Denis Potvin in 1979.
