Ray Ferraro scores his 40th goal at Nassau Coliseum as the Islanders defeat the New Jersey Devils 7-0. It was his final goal of the 1991-92 season. Ferraro finishes the season with a career-high 80 points (40G, 40A).

Pierre Turgeon records his 50th goal of the season in overtime at Madison Square Garden as the Islanders defeat the Rangers 3-2. Turgeon finishes the season with a career-high 58 goals and 132 points. Turgeon is the most recent Islander to score 50 goals and surpass 100 points in a season.

David Volek’s overtime winner eliminates the two-time defending champions, the Pittsburgh Penguins, and sends the Islanders to the third round of the playoffs. The Islanders win Game Seven against the heavily favored Penguins 4-3.

nystrom’s number retired
Bob Nystrom’s number 23 was raised to the rafters on April 1, 1995, an honor befitting of Mr. Islander. Nystrom, an original draft pick in 1972, played 900 games with the club, recording 513 points (235G, 278A). Nystrom scored the most famous goal in franchise history, netting the Stanley Cup clinching goal in overtime of Game Six in 1980.

third-straight season
Ziggy Palffy scores his 40th goal of the season as the Islanders defeat the New Jersey Devils 3-2. It marks Palffy’s third-straight 40-goal season, making him only the fourth player in franchise history to score 40+ goals in three straight seasons (Mike Bossy, Bryan Trottier and Pat LaFontaine).
